Insulin Resistance Prevents Weight Loss

If you are a person that has tried almost every diet on the planet and done all kinds of exercise and still can't lose weight, then i think it might be time for you to look into one of the most notorious hormones in the human body: INSULIN

Now what does insulin do you might ask?, Well insulin is the energy storing hormone secreted by the pancreas. It is released in the blood when your blood glucose ( sugar ) level is high so that it can feed the muscles and transport the glucose to the liver. How insulin relates to weight loss is that when Insulin levels are high another Hormone is prevented from working it's magic and that is Liptin. This hormone is in charge of the process of liposis ( the process of using body fat for energy ).

Basically if you've been eating a lot of high sugary food (soft drinks, breads, junk food, sweets ) with time your body will start to function in a state of perpetual high insulin cause your blood glucose levels will almost always be high, this will completely destroy your weight loss efforts because the liposis, the actual fat burning cannot even start. So even if you go on a diet but still take in sugar , your body will be very slow to react and normalise your Insulin levels.

The solution to insulin resistance is unfortunately to quit all refined and simple sugars for good, it might sound like an extreme solution but that's the key. A long period of time will be required before your hormones start to level off and your insulin levels start to normalize. To make it even faster i would suggest to even quit fruits as well. Sugar in general should be reduced to a bare minimum. The only sugars i'd advise are the complex ones (oats whole grains legumes) because they have a lot of fiber and it takes a longer time for them to digest.

My suggestions of things to try is:

  • Intermittent fasting as meal timing plan. When you are in a fasted state the body tends to lower your insulin and promote fat burning and liposis. Your leptin levels rise quite a bit in the fasted state
  • Keto diet or Paleo diet. These diets focus mostly on unrefined foods and there aren't high in fructose or glucose. I would advise skipping a lot of the fruits that are high in sugar though.
